Penzberg merger of our two plants has begun

07.06.2021

The Covid 19 pandemic in 2020 accelerated many developments and decisions: this was also the case at Schleicher Fahrzeugteile in our 75th anniversary year when the decision was reached to effect the long-term merger of our two plants at Penzberg, south of Munich. The quieter operative phases could be used straightaway, therefore, to evolve new plans for production processes and initiate the transfer of the units concerned.

Our aim on purchasing the site at Penzberg in 1986 was already to open up Schleicher Fahrzeugteile for sound growth in the long term. This site permits free planning and offers room for extension, and this allows the efficient installation of the state-of-the-art, ever larger and heavier machining centres which have tested the limits of our floors in the buildings at Munich. The position of the offices has also been planned to facilitate coordination, ensuring short distances and hence efficient lanes of communication. The staff at our Munich plant will gradually move to Penzberg and continue to maintain and develop our firm’s know-how, exploiting the greater synergy effects.

During the course of 2021, all soft machining (cutting to length and centering, turning and milling) will go to Penzberg: the first impressive transfers of machinery have been successfully completed. While the office capacity at the Penzberg plant is being extended, staff in the departments for purchasing, construction, jig-making, product and quality planning, human resources as well as the management are now working for the length of a project at Penzberg or are based there for alternate periods.

We plan to complete the process by the end of 2022, transferring unit by unit to ensure that the move is production-friendly as well as being favourable to our customers.
